EX JAFA
On the 1st-3rd December, 114 Cadets from 7 Cadet Corps units from Auckland, Western Bay of Plenty and Opotiki attended EX JAFA, with support from 15 personnel from 3/6 BN NZDF.
EX JAFA aims to build a sense of comradeship and teamwork with other Cadet Corps Units, and to provide them with the knowledge and skills to perform their duties as cadets while upholding the Core Values of Cadet Forces.
Friday night was marched in for the cadets, a Steyr shoot walkthrough by 3/6BN and then onto briefs for the weekend. The cadets were then addressed by LtCol Oliver Te Ua Commanding Officer 3/6 Battalion.
Saturday started with a presentation from SSGT King NZDF Recruiter, the cadets were then split into their six platoons and had to complete set tasks throughout the day.
These included:
The EX JAFA Trophy would then be awarded to the Top Platoon.
Throughout Saturday the cadets had a chance to meet and talk with Warrant Officer of Defence Mr Danny Broughton who then addressed the cadets on Saturday night.
Sunday started with a TUG of WAR inter-platoon competition followed by a presentation by Westpac Helicopter. Mike Cannell and James Tayler spent an hour with the cadets talking about the Helicopters and the type of work carried out. It was a very informative session.
It was now time to get ready for the final parade.
The guest of honour for the final parade was The Sergeant Major of the Army Mr Clive Douglas who inspected the parade and presented the awards.
The Awards;
I would personally like to thank all of the Officers and staff that made EX JAFA a great success. It would not have been possible without the support from NZCF and most of all the NZDF personnel who assisted with support for EX JAFA.
